Hoshinoya Tokyo

Hoshinoya Tokyo located in the heart of Tokyo, a short 10-minute walk from the Imperial Palace grounds. It offers modern accommodation with a restaurant, pool (indoor), communal hot spring bath (indoor), spa treatment, free rooftop Kenjutsu practice (reservation required), Japanese tea ceremony, fitness center, and rooms with free WiFi access. It is a 10-minute walk to Tokyo Station and just 1-minute walk from Otemachi Subway Station (including an underground entrance from the station).

Guestrooms in this hotel are designed so that each floor acts as if it is a fusion of modern elements and that of a traditional ryokan inn. Meaning not only do guests have their own room, but they can also enjoy the communal hot spring bath (not be accessible to those with mobility challenges), or just relax and meet others in a shared lounge space. Likewise, the décor shares a traditional ryokan style, including tatami-mat floors, windows with shoji screens, non-abrasive lighting, as well as many traditional interior design elements. Rooms offer both air-conditioning and heating facilities. Each room is equipped with a fridge, green tea and a flat-screen TV.

Hoshinoya Tokyo’s Restaurant serves a variety of seasonal Japanese dishes in a relaxed traditional setting. It is open for breakfast and dinner hours.  Dinner and breakfast can also be served in-room. A selection of drinks and light meals are available for in-room dining any time of day.

Accessibility

While the entrance featured in all of Hoshinoya Tokyo’s media shows a step, there is a secondary entrance with a ramp nearby and there are always staff waiting at the door will guide you into the building upon your arrival.  Guests are required to remove their shoes at the entrance, and wheelchair users will have their tires wiped down instead.

The front-desk floor is accessible and has an accessible unisex toilet with grab bars, a backrest, ostomate cleaning sink and baby seat.  The seating near the performance stage and sake tasting area is quite low, which allows wheelchair users a good view of any performances but makes it difficult to use the tables.  The tables in the cultural crafts area are normal height and have chairs which can be removed.

The guest floor common areas are flat and have space to move around in a wheelchair.  The hotel has 3 “Yuri”-type accessible rooms, located on the lower floors of the hotel.  Accessible rooms cannot be booked online and must be booked by contacting the hotel directly.   The doors slide open and have a button to lock/unlock the door inside the room. There is plenty of room in the bedroom area, including space between the bed and wall.  The bed is lower than many other hotels, but not too low.  There is no room for a hoist legs under the bed.

The toilet and shower are in separate rooms.  The toilet has bars on both sides (one side is moveable) but no backrest.  The location within the bathroom makes it difficult to transfer from a 90° angle. The bath and shower are flat for a wheelchair to roll-in and a shower chair is available. The shower head is detachable.

The large public bath is not accessible.
