Shimoda Yamatokan located on the southern coast of Shimoda city as part of Shizuoka Prefecture, it is a 2-minute walk from the nearby beach. It offers modern accommodation with restaurants, swimming pools (seasonal outdoor), massage services, and rooms with free WiFi access is available in all areas. It is a 7-minute drive to Izukyu-Shimoda Station.
Guestrooms offer both air-conditioning and heating facilities. Each room is equipped with a fridge, green tea and a flat-screen TV.
The hotel’s lounge and restaurants serve a variety of fresh local seasonal Japanese cuisine and some Western dishes in spacious, relaxed settings that often include beautiful views of the ocean. Options are open for breakfast and dinner hours.
Accessibility
While the hotel has a mini-bus that ferries visitors from Izukyu Shimoda Station, it is not accessible for wheelchair users who cannot walk. The local bus has a stop a 10 minute walk from the hotel but runs infrequently and not all buses on the route are accessible (call the bus company beforehand to check if the bus will be accessible). The hotel can arrange for an accessible taxi for a separate fee.
The hotel has an accessible Western-style twin room with private open-air bath. One of the two beds is motorized and allows adjustment of both foot/head angles and bed height.
The toilet is in a good size room and is accessible, it has multiple grab bars, and a bidet. The shower is a roll-in type with virtual no threshold between it and other rooms, a shower chair available.
The open-air bath is an en-suite onsen, its floor elevates up and down into the water with a flip of a switch, making it easy to transfer to a shower chair and get in the hot spring water. There is also a special bath wheelchair with adjustable height available.
The restaurants have accessible seating options. An accessible family/unisex toilet is available on the restaurant floors, but not in the lobby.
The large public baths and pool are not accessible due to a large flight of stairs. The beach can be accessed by going down the entrance way – which is a bit steep – and using a small ramp near the rest facilities but there is no wheelchair access beyond that.
Getting to the spa requires using stairs, but in-room massages can be requested after 8:00pm.
