- Overview
Hakone Pax Yoshino is a 12-minute walk, or 10 minute bus ride, from Hakone Yumoto Station, the gateway to sightseeing in Hakone.
The hotel offers hot spring baths in all rooms, a large public bath, and private onsen rooms available for an extra charge (booked at check in). A children’s corner, massages, ping pong tables, karaoke rooms and a library lounge are also available for guests.
A banquet dinner comprised of fresh fish from the Pacific Ocean and vegetables from the west face of Hakone Mountain is included in the stay (though reservations for seating time is suggested), as is a breakfast buffet.
Accessibility
The hotel can be reached by foot (15 minutes, uphill), or an orange onsen loop shuttle bus that goes around the area (Route A). The loop shuttle buses have a wheelchair lift in the back. Staff from the bus company are directing guests near the bus stop, tell them you want to ride the bus and they will ensure you a space.
Returning to Hakone Yumoto station after checkout is harder. The hotel offers a private shuttle bus in the morning, but it is not accessible. While the orange loop bus is accessible, by the time it gets to the hotel, it is already full with guests from other hotels and wheelchair users cannot likely get on. The walk back to the station is down hill and pleasant, but if you need a bus it may be best to check out early or wait at the hotel for a while.
The lounge area has ramps to allow access to all areas, and elevators are available at both ends of the hotel (though only one goes to the 5th floor public baths). Wheelchairs may be borrowed at the front lobby.
The tables in the dining room are low for power wheelchair users but the staff can supply a tray if needed.
Two accessible twin rooms are available.
The rooms are part Western (beds, toilet) and part Japanese (tatami mat area and bath) in style. Unfortunately, the location of the tatami mat area blocks access to the main window. The door to the bath is too small for a power wheelchair and has a small step (3-4cm) down into the shower area, as well as tall sides on the bath tub. This makes it nearly impossible for those who cannot walk to use the bath, and even the shower area may be difficult to use as well.
The private onsen “Cloud” (separate charge) is more accessible. There is a showering area, shower chair, flat access to the bath and a bench in the bath tub.

I was excited that the hotel had an accessible room but disappointed I could not get close to the bath in my wheelchair!
I could use the private bath, but had to pay 3,000 yen to do that…
