Hoshinoya Okinawa

Hoshinoya Okinawa located in the city of Yomitan within Okinawa prefecture, it’s right on the beach and a short 10-minute drive from the remnants of Zakimi Castle. It offers modern accommodation with a restaurant, swimming pool (outdoor, heated), spa services, dojo, and rooms with free WiFi access. There are no nearby train stations, so bus, taxi, or car ride will be required to visit this location.

Guestrooms offer both air-conditioning and heating facilities. Each room is equipped with a fridge, green tea and a Bluetooth speaker but no TV.

Dry cleaning services are available at the hotel. Ironing facilities and humidifiers can be borrowed from the front desk.

Hoshinoya Okinawa’s dining options includes dishes using Okinawan ingredients and Sicilian culinary techniques served in a spacious and relaxed setting, or a number of dishes may be ordered for room service but must be done so in advance. These options (including room service) are open for breakfast and dinner hours.

Accessibility

Getting to the hotel from the airport will require an accessible taxi or rent-a-car.  Though buses are often accessible, it can take over an hour with transfers.  Contact the Okinawa Barrier Free Tour Desk for help with transportation.

The rooms are connected via walkways above a garden, but they do not have railings so caution is needed when moving around.

Though not listed explicitly on their website, Hoshinoya Okinawa has a mostly accessible “Haru” room, the room space and doorways are spacious and accessible.  All other rooms have steps at the entrance and between rooms, so it is important to tell the hotel in advance if you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty with steps.  Even if one or two steps are fine, note that some rooms are on the second floor and can only be accessed by a flight of stairs.

The two king-sized beds are set up in a more traditional style with futon bedding on the floor, unfortunately, the area the beds are located at has a step up. For those in a wheelchair, transferring from the chair to the bottom of the bed where the step it located may be an arduous task, and back up to the chair even more difficult from the lower elevation.

The balcony has steps down to a sofa and cannot be accessed in a wheelchair.

The toilet has multiple grab bars; however, it doesn’t have room besides it for side-transfers, and no tank/bar behind it for support. The bathtub has a shower space next to it to it with room for a shower chair, a shower chair is available.

The pool area has steps at several locations and the entrance to the pool area/community area which is nearest the accessible room has a step.  To access this area and the dining area, wheelchair users will need to go out onto an access road and return via a separate entrance.

The beach can be accessed by a road near the restaurant.
